Mitsubishi Outlander: Seat belt with pre-tensioner mechanism and force-limiter mechanism

Mitsubishi Carisma / Mitsubishi Carisma Owner's Manual / Seats and seat belts / Seat belts / Seat belt with pre-tensioner mechanism and force-limiter mechanism

The driver’s seat and front passenger’s seat each have a seat belt equipped with a pre– tensioner mechanism.

Pre–tensioner mechanism

The pre–tensioner mechanisms will retract their respective seat belts instantaneously, thus maximizing the seat belt’s effectiveness, if there is a frontal impact severe enough to injure the driver and/or front passenger and the ignition switch is in the ”ON” position.

WARNING

To obtain the best results from your pre–tensioner seat belt, make sure you do the following:

CAUTION

(1) Any installation of audio equipment or repairs in the vicinity of the pre–tensioner seat belts or floor console must be performed by an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer. It is important to do so because the work could affect the pre–tensioner mechanisms.
(2) If you need to scrap the vehicle, please consult an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer. It is important to do so because unexpected activation of the pre–tensioner seat belts could cause injuries.

NOTE

(1) The pre–tensioner seat belts will be activated if the vehicle suffers a severe frontal impact, even if the seat belts are not worn.
(2) The pre–tensioner seat belts are designed to work only once. After the pre– tensioner seat belts have been activated, they must be replaced by an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer.

Warning lamp

The same warning lamp is shared by the SRS air bags and the pre–tensioner seat belts.

Refer to the ”SRS warning lamp” on page 3–36.

Force–limiter mechanisms

In the event of a collision, each force–limiter mechanism will effectively absorb the load applied to the seat belt so as to minimize the impact to the passenger.

 But Still Fun

Green-light power isn't the only ingredient in driving fun — just test a car like the non-turbo Mini Cooper or even Mitsubishi's base Lancer. The Outlander is fun in the same kind of way: The steering wheel requires medium effort to turn at low speeds but yields impressive turn-in precision

 Disconnection and connection

To disconnect the battery cable, stop the engine, first disconnect the negative (-) terminal and then the positive (+) terminal. When connecting the battery, first connect the positive (+) terminal and then the negative (-) terminal. Note ► For petrol-powered vehicles with turbocharger
