Mitsubishi Outlander child restraint top tether strap routed over the rear seatback and connected to the anchor point

WARNING

  • Child restraint anchors are designed to withstand only the forces applied by a correctly fitted child restraint. Never use these anchors to attach adult seat belts, secure cargo or connect other equipment to the vehicle. Improper use may damage the anchor and prevent a child restraint from being installed securely. A child attached to a damaged or improperly used anchor could be seriously injured or killed in a collision.

The child restraint top tether strap must be used when a compatible forward-facing child restraint is installed with the vehicle seat belt in an applicable Mitsubishi Outlander rear seating position.

Begin by installing and securely tightening the child restraint with the seat belt according to the appropriate procedure and the restraint manufacturer's instructions.

1. Remove the head restraint if necessary to obtain the correct child restraint fit, and store it securely where it cannot move around inside the vehicle. Reinstall the head restraint after the child restraint has been removed.

2. Route the top tether strap over the seatback as specified by the child restraint manufacturer. Make sure the strap is not twisted, trapped or routed around an unsuitable part of the seat.

3. Attach the top tether hook securely to the designated tether anchor point identified in the illustration. Use only the anchor assigned to the seating position where the child restraint is installed.

4. Complete the applicable child restraint installation steps described in this section before tightening the top tether strap. Remove slack according to the restraint manufacturer's instructions without changing the position of the child restraint.
