Mitsubishi Outlander parking wheel position for downhill and uphill parking with a curb

Mitsubishi Outlander wheel position when parking on a hill without a curb

WARNING

  • Do not stop or park the Mitsubishi Outlander over combustible materials such as dry grass, waste paper, leaves, or rags. Hot vehicle components could ignite these materials and cause a fire.
  • Never leave the engine running while the vehicle is unattended.
  • Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle. They may unintentionally operate switches, controls, or other vehicle systems and could become involved in a serious accident.
  • To reduce the risk of serious injury or death caused by unintended vehicle operation or activation of vehicle systems, never leave children, persons requiring assistance, or pets unattended inside the Mitsubishi Outlander.

In addition, the temperature inside a closed vehicle can rise rapidly on a warm day, creating a serious risk of heat-related injury or death for occupants and animals.

  • Safe parking requires both applying the parking brake and placing the transmission in P (Park). Failure to secure the vehicle properly could allow it to move unexpectedly or roll away, resulting in an accident.
  • Confirm that the shift lever cannot be moved out of P (Park) unless the foot brake pedal is depressed.

1. Firmly apply the parking brake to secure the vehicle.

2. Push the park button to shift the transmission into the P (Park) position.

3. When parking the Mitsubishi Outlander on a slope, turn the front wheels as illustrated to help prevent the vehicle from rolling into the roadway if it should begin to move.

  • HEADED DOWNHILL WITH CURB: 1
Turn the front wheels toward the curb and move the vehicle forward slowly until the curb-side wheel gently contacts the curb.
  • HEADED UPHILL WITH CURB: 2
Turn the front wheels away from the curb and allow the vehicle to move backward slowly until the curb-side wheel gently contacts the curb.
  • HEADED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, NO CURB: 3
Turn the front wheels toward the side of the road so that, if the vehicle begins to roll, it will move away from the center of the roadway.

4. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position before leaving the vehicle.
