WARNING

  • In a collision, an occupant could be thrown from the vehicle through an open sunroof.

Always wear seat belts properly and use appropriate child restraint systems for children.

  • Do not allow anyone to stand up or extend their head, hands, arms, or any other part of the body through the sunroof opening while the vehicle is moving or while the sunroof is closing.

CAUTION

  • Before opening the sunroof, remove water, snow, ice, sand, or other debris from the glass and surrounding area.
  • Do not place heavy objects on the sunroof glass or on the area surrounding the sunroof, as this could damage the mechanism or roof structure.

NOTE

  • If wind buffeting, pulsing, or excessive noise occurs while only one window is open, slightly open the opposite window or adjust the sunroof opening to help equalize cabin air pressure.

The sunroof and sunshade can be operated while the ignition switch is in the ON position. They also remain operable for approximately 45 seconds after the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position. If the driver's door or front passenger's door is opened during this approximately 45-second period, power to the sunroof and sunshade is canceled.

Power panoramic sunroof and sunshade

Mitsubishi Outlander panoramic sunroof and power sunshade switch positions

Sliding sunshade and sunroof

When the sunshade switch is pushed to OPEN position 1, the power sunshade opens fully.

When the sunroof switch is pushed to OPEN position 3, the sunroof first opens to the comfort mode position. Push the switch toward OPEN again to move the sunroof to its fully open position.

Depending on the current position of the sunshade, the sunshade may open automatically together with the Mitsubishi Outlander panoramic sunroof to provide sufficient clearance.

When the sunroof switch is pushed to CLOSE position 4, the sunroof closes automatically. When the sunshade switch is pushed to CLOSE position 2, the sunshade closes. The sunroof must be completely closed before the sunshade can move to its fully closed position.

To stop the sunroof or sunshade while either one is moving, operate the applicable sunroof switch toward OPEN 1 or 3, CLOSE 2 or 4, or UP position 5. The moving panel will stop at its current position.

Tilting sunroof

To tilt the sunroof upward for ventilation, make sure the sunroof is fully closed and push the sunroof switch toward UP position 5.

To lower the tilted sunroof and return it to the closed position, push the switch toward CLOSE position 4.

Comfort mode

Comfort mode is an intermediate opening position intended for driving with the sunroof open. When the panoramic sunroof is fully open, airflow around the roof opening can produce considerably more wind noise inside the passenger compartment.

For a quieter and more comfortable driving environment, use the comfort mode position when traveling with the Mitsubishi Outlander sunroof open.

Auto-reverse function

WARNING

  • There is a small area immediately before the sunroof or sunshade reaches the fully closed position where an obstruction may not be detected. Before closing either component, make sure all passengers keep their hands, fingers, head, and other body parts clear of the opening.

The auto-reverse function is designed to reverse the movement of the sunroof or sunshade if an obstruction is detected while either component is closing. When the control unit detects resistance indicating that something may be trapped, the sunroof or sunshade will immediately move back toward the open position.

Depending on road conditions, vehicle movement, or other environmental factors, the auto-reverse function may occasionally activate even when no object is trapped. An impact or load that produces resistance similar to an obstruction may cause the system to reverse.

If the auto-reverse function operates repeatedly, or if the vehicle battery has been discharged, the sunroof and sunshade may not close normally. In this situation, push and hold the switch toward CLOSE position 4 to close the sunroof.

If the sunroof does not operate

If the sunroof and sunshade do not operate correctly, initialize the operating system using the following procedure.

1. Push and hold the switch in direction 5.

2. Continue holding the switch. The sunroof will move toward the tilt-up position and the sunshade will move toward the fully closed position in small increments as the initialization procedure progresses.

NOTE

  • If both the sunroof and sunshade are open when initialization begins, the sunroof will first move to the fully closed position. The sunshade will then move to its fully closed position before the sunroof completes the required tilt-up movement.

3. When the sunroof has stopped in the tilt-up position and the sunshade has stopped in the fully closed position, release the switch. The resetting and initialization procedure is then complete.

NOTE

  • Do not release the switch before the resetting procedure has finished. Releasing the switch prematurely will cancel the initialization mode.

If the procedure is interrupted, begin again from step 1 and continue holding the switch until the complete sequence has finished.

WARNING

  • The driver is responsible for safe operation of the sunroof, including operation by all passengers. Failure to follow the instructions and safety precautions for the Mitsubishi Outlander sunroof can result in serious injury or death.
    • Do not allow children to operate the sunroof.

Improper operation by a child can cause an accident or entrapment. If a child or another occupant becomes caught in the sunroof opening, serious injury may result.

    • To reduce the risk of injury or death caused by unintended sunroof operation, place the ignition switch in the OFF position and do not leave children or the vehicle transmitter inside the Mitsubishi Outlander when leaving the vehicle unattended.
    • Do not intentionally test or activate the auto-reverse function with your hands, face, or other body parts. The auto-reverse system does not eliminate the risk of entrapment and serious injury.

CAUTION

  • Do not place newspapers, cloths, handkerchiefs, or other objects on the sunshade while it is extending or retracting. Objects on the moving sunshade may interfere with normal operation or damage the mechanism.
  • Do not push or apply force to the sunshade arm with your hands or other objects. The arm may become deformed, resulting in improper operation or damage to the sunshade system.
  • Do not insert objects into the sunshade inlet or opening, as they may interfere with movement and damage the sunshade mechanism.
  • Do not hang objects from the sunshade arm rail. Added weight or obstruction may cause improper operation or damage.
  • Do not pull the sunshade forcefully by hand. Excessive force may stretch or deform the material and can lead to improper operation or permanent damage.
