The key number is stamped on the key number tag as shown in the illustration. Record this number and keep the key number tag in a secure location separate from the vehicle keys. If the original keys are lost, the recorded key number can be used when ordering a replacement through an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

- Emergency key (inside transmitter) (2 sets)
- Key number tag
The Mitsubishi Outlander can be driven only with a transmitter that has been registered to the vehicle's transmitter system and Anti-theft engine immobilizer components. Up to 4 transmitters can be registered for use with a single vehicle.
If a transmitter is lost or stolen, take the vehicle and all remaining transmitters to an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer so the transmitter ID codes can be reprogrammed. Reprogramming helps prevent an unaccounted-for transmitter from being used to access the vehicle.
Replacement transmitter
Only transmitters that have been programmed to the Mitsubishi Outlander's electronic systems can be used to start the vehicle.
If a transmitter is lost, a replacement can be ordered through an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer by providing the applicable key number.
CAUTION
- Always carry the registered transmitter with you when driving. The transmitter is a precision electronic device and should be handled carefully to avoid damage. Observe the following precautions.
- The transmitter is water resistant, but prolonged or excessive exposure to moisture can still cause damage. If it becomes wet, wipe it thoroughly and dry it completely as soon as possible.
- Do not bend, drop, strike, or subject the transmitter to strong impact.
- When the outside temperature falls below 14ºF (−10ºC), the transmitter battery may not operate normally.
- Do not leave the transmitter for an extended period in an area where the temperature exceeds 140ºF (60ºC).
- Do not alter, modify, or disassemble the transmitter.
- Do not use a magnetic key holder with the transmitter.
- Do not store the transmitter close to electrical or electronic devices such as a television, personal computer, cellular phone, or wireless charger, as these devices may interfere with normal transmitter operation.
- Do not expose the transmitter to fresh water or salt water, and never wash it in a washing machine or ultrasonic cleaner. Such exposure can damage the transmitter and interfere with proper system operation.
- If a transmitter is lost or stolen, Mitsubishi Motors recommends having the identification code for that transmitter erased from the vehicle. This prevents the missing transmitter from being used to unlock or operate the Mitsubishi Outlander. For information about the ID-code erasing procedure, visit an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.
Emergency key

To remove the emergency key, release the locking knob on the back of the transmitter and pull the emergency key out.
To reinstall the emergency key, insert it firmly into the transmitter until the locking knob returns to the locked position and the key is securely retained.
Use the emergency key when manual locking or unlocking of the doors is required.
CAUTION
- Always keep the emergency key installed inside the transmitter so it is available when needed.
