WARNING
- Do not breathe exhaust gases. Vehicle exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas.
Carbon monoxide is extremely dangerous and can cause unconsciousness or death.
- If you suspect that exhaust fumes are entering the passenger compartment, open all windows fully while driving and have the Mitsubishi Outlander inspected immediately.
- Do not run the engine in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space such as a garage.
- Do not leave the vehicle parked with the engine running for an extended period.
- Keep the liftgate closed while driving. An open liftgate may allow exhaust gases to enter the passenger compartment. If driving with the liftgate open is unavoidable, follow these precautions:
- Open all windows.
- Switch air recirculation mode off and set the blower fan to its highest speed to increase airflow through the passenger compartment.
- If equipment is added to the vehicle for recreational or other purposes, follow the equipment manufacturer's recommendations to help prevent carbon monoxide from entering the passenger compartment.
Certain recreational appliances, including stoves, refrigerators, heaters, and similar equipment, may also produce carbon monoxide.
Make sure such equipment is installed and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- The exhaust system and vehicle body should be inspected by a qualified mechanic whenever:
- The vehicle is raised for inspection, repair, or other service work.
- You suspect exhaust fumes are entering the passenger compartment.
- You notice a change in the sound produced by the exhaust system.
- The Mitsubishi Outlander has been involved in an accident that damaged the exhaust system, underbody, or rear of the vehicle.
