WARNING

  • A Mitsubishi Outlander equipped with All-Wheel Control (AWC) must never be tested on a two-wheel dynamometer, including equipment of the type used by some jurisdictions for emissions testing, or on similar equipment.

    Before the vehicle is placed on a dynamometer, make sure the test facility personnel are informed that the Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with AWC.

    Using unsuitable test equipment can damage the transmission or cause unexpected vehicle movement, potentially resulting in serious vehicle damage or personal injury.

Depending on legal requirements in certain states, regions, or provinces, the Mitsubishi Outlander may need to be in a "ready condition" before undergoing an Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) test of the emission control system.

The vehicle reaches the "ready condition" after it has been operated through specific driving patterns that allow the onboard diagnostic system to complete the required checks.

Under normal circumstances, ordinary vehicle operation is usually sufficient for the Mitsubishi Outlander to reach the "ready condition".

If a powertrain-related component has been repaired or the battery has been disconnected, the diagnostic system may be reset and the vehicle can return to a "not ready condition".

Before taking the Mitsubishi Outlander for an I/M emissions test, check the Inspection/Maintenance readiness status.

Place the ignition switch in the ON position without starting the engine. If the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) remains steadily illuminated for 20 seconds and then flashes for 10 seconds, the I/M test status is "not ready".

If the MIL remains steady and does not begin flashing after the initial 20 seconds, the I/M test status is "ready".

If necessary, it is recommended that you visit an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer to help establish the "ready condition" or prepare the vehicle for the required emissions inspection.
