Inside mirror

Mitsubishi Outlander interior rearview mirror adjustment

Adjust the inside rearview mirror to a position that provides a clear and comfortable view through the rear window before driving.

Frameless auto dimming rearview mirror (if so equipped)

Mitsubishi Outlander frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror and light sensor area

The frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror automatically adjusts its reflectivity according to the intensity of headlights from vehicles traveling behind the Mitsubishi Outlander, helping reduce glare during nighttime driving.

Do not hang objects from the mirror or apply glass cleaner directly to the mirror assembly. Doing so may reduce the sensitivity of the sensor and interfere with proper auto-dimming operation.

Door mirrors

WARNING

  • Objects seen in the passenger-side door mirror may be closer than they appear. Use particular caution when moving or changing lanes to the right. Relying only on this mirror can lead to incorrect distance judgment and may cause an accident. Use the inside rearview mirror and, when necessary, look over your shoulder to confirm the position and distance of surrounding vehicles or objects.

Adjusting door mirrors

Mitsubishi Outlander driver armrest door mirror selector and adjustment controls

The door mirror control switch is located on the driver's armrest.

The electric door mirror adjustment function operates only when the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position.

Press the right or left mirror selector switch to choose the corresponding door mirror 1, then use control switch 2 to adjust the mirror angle until the desired rearward view is obtained.

Heated door mirrors (if so equipped)

The heated door mirrors operate when the electric rear window defogger switch is activated, helping clear moisture or frost from the mirror surfaces.

Foldable door mirrors

CAUTION

  • Do not drive with the door mirrors folded against the vehicle, as rearward visibility will be significantly reduced.
  • If the mirrors have been folded or unfolded manually, they may not remain in the correct operating position and could move forward or backward while driving. After manual movement, operate the mirrors electrically to return them to their proper position before driving the Mitsubishi Outlander.

 Manual type

Example

Mitsubishi Outlander manually folding door mirror toward the rear of the vehicle

To fold a manual-type door mirror, push the mirror housing toward the rear of the vehicle until it reaches the stored position.

 Remote control type

Mitsubishi Outlander power-folding door mirror switch on the driver controls

The power-folding door mirror controls operate when the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position.

To fold the door mirrors, press door mirror folding switch 1. Press the switch again to return the mirrors to their normal driving position.

On equipped Mitsubishi Outlander models, the door mirrors can automatically fold or unfold when the doors are locked or unlocked using the key buttons or the F.A.S.T.-key system.

This automatic folding and unfolding function can be deactivated. Contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for details.

If a door mirror has been moved manually or struck by a person or object, the mirror housing may become loose or misaligned at the pivot point. To restore normal power-folding operation, cycle the mirrors using the door mirror folding switch until they return to the fully open position.

NOTE

  • Keep your hands and fingers clear while the door mirrors are moving to avoid pinching injuries.
  • If a mirror has been moved by hand or displaced after contact with a person or object, it may not return to its normal position when the door mirror folding switch is operated. If this occurs, press the folding switch to move the mirror to the fully folded position, then press the switch again to return it to the normal open position.
  • When the ignition switch is in the OFF position, the power-folding mirrors may not respond when the door mirror folding switch is pressed. If this occurs, place the ignition switch in the ON position and operate the switch again.
  • If the mirrors are frozen and do not move normally, do not repeatedly press the door mirror folding switch. Repeated operation while the mirrors are obstructed by ice may overheat or damage the mirror motor circuits.

Folding and unfolding the mirrors without using the door mirror folding switch (automatic extension function)

The automatic folding and unfolding behavior of the Mitsubishi Outlander door mirrors can be changed as described below.

For information about changing these settings, contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

  • The outside mirrors can be configured to fold automatically when the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position and unfold automatically when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position.
  • The automatic folding function for the outside mirrors can be disabled.

Reverse auto tilt function (if so equipped)

When reversing the Mitsubishi Outlander, the selected right or left door mirror can automatically tilt downward to provide a clearer view of the area beside and behind the vehicle.

1. Place the ignition switch in the ON position.

2. Move the shift lever to the R (Reverse) position.

3. Select the right or left door mirror using the door mirror control switch.

4. The selected mirror surface will automatically tilt downward.

The mirror angle used during reverse auto tilt operation can be adjusted and stored while the function is active.

The door mirror surface will return to its normal driving position when any of the following conditions occurs:

  • The selected right or left door mirror control switch is pressed again.
  • The shift lever is moved out of R (Reverse) and vehicle speed exceeds 5 MPH (8 km/h).
  • Approximately 9 seconds have elapsed after the shift lever is moved to a position other than R (Reverse).
  • The ignition switch is placed in the OFF position.
