If a standard seat belt remains too short even when it has been pulled out to its full available length, an appropriate seat belt extender must be obtained. The extender may be used with either front seating position of the Mitsubishi Outlander when the standard belt cannot be fastened correctly without it.

WARNING
- Use a seat belt extender only when the installed seat belt is genuinely too short to fasten around the occupant. A person who can correctly use the standard seat belt must not use an extender. Unnecessary use can alter the position and performance of the restraint during a collision.
- When an extender is no longer required, disconnect it from the buckle and store it securely. Do not leave it attached for another occupant who can use the standard belt.
- Never use a seat belt extender to install a child restraint. An extender may prevent the restraint from being secured correctly, increasing the risk of serious injury or death to the child during sudden braking or a collision.
Seat belt maintenance

- If seat belt webbing A or guide ring B becomes dirty, the belt may retract slowly, unevenly or incompletely.
Dust, residue and other contamination may be present even when the belt and guide ring appear clean during a visual inspection.
Clean the full length of the seat belt with a mild neutral-detergent solution, following the direction of the webbing, and carefully wipe guide ring B to remove accumulated dirt.
Removing dirt that is not immediately visible may reduce friction and help the Mitsubishi Outlander seat belt extend and retract more smoothly.
- Inspect the seat belts and their metal components periodically, including the buckles, tongues, retractors, flexible wires, guide points and anchors. Confirm that every buckle latches and releases correctly and that each retractor operates smoothly. If any loose component, deterioration, fraying, cut, burn, severe discoloration or other damage is found on the webbing or hardware, replace the complete seat belt assembly.
