Flat towing for All-Wheel Control vehicle (if so equipped)

Towing the Mitsubishi Outlander with all four wheels in contact with the road is commonly referred to as flat towing.

This towing method is sometimes used when transporting a vehicle behind a recreational vehicle, such as a motor home.

CAUTION

  • Failure to follow these towing instructions can result in severe transmission or drivetrain damage.
  • Never flat tow an All-Wheel Control (AWC) Mitsubishi Outlander.
  • DO NOT tow an All-Wheel Control (AWC) vehicle with any of its wheels on the ground. Doing so can cause serious and costly damage to powertrain components.

Flat towing for Front-Wheel Drive vehicle (if so equipped)

Towing the Mitsubishi Outlander with all four wheels on the road surface is commonly called flat towing.

This method may be considered when transporting a vehicle behind a recreational vehicle, including a motor home.

CAUTION

  • Failure to follow these towing guidelines can result in severe transmission damage.
  • Whenever the vehicle is being towed, it must face forward. Never tow the Mitsubishi Outlander backward.
  • Never tow a front-wheel-drive vehicle with the front tires on the ground. Doing so may cause serious and expensive damage to the powertrain.
  • DO NOT tow a front-wheel-drive Mitsubishi Outlander equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with all four wheels on the ground.

Doing so WILL DAMAGE internal transmission components because the transmission will not receive the lubrication required during this type of towing.

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

When towing a Mitsubishi Outlander equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), a suitable vehicle dolly MUST be positioned beneath the drive wheels of the towed vehicle.

Always follow the dolly manufacturer's instructions and recommendations when using this type of towing equipment.
