Mitsubishi Outlander emergency liftgate release lever access behind the interior liftgate cover

WARNING

  • Always keep the liftgate release lever cover securely closed while driving. Loose luggage or cargo could otherwise contact the release lever accidentally and unlatch the liftgate.

If the liftgate cannot be opened using switch A, B, or C because the vehicle battery is discharged, use the following emergency release procedure.

1. Fold the third-row seats down. 2. Use a suitable tool, such as a flat-blade screwdriver, to open the access cover. Insert the tool into the opening and move the release lever to the left. This will mechanically unlatch the liftgate.

3. Push the liftgate upward to open it manually.

After using the emergency release procedure, contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible to have the liftgate system inspected and repaired.

Height memory function

The Mitsubishi Outlander power liftgate can be programmed to stop at a specific opening height by following the procedure below:

1. Open the liftgate.

2. Pull the liftgate downward to the desired opening position and hold it there. Some resistance may be felt while manually adjusting the power liftgate.

3. While continuing to hold the liftgate at the desired height, press and hold power remote liftgate close switch D on the liftgate for approximately 3 seconds, or until 2 beeps are heard.

The selected opening height is now stored, and the liftgate will stop at this position during subsequent power opening. To change the memorized height, repeat steps 1 through 3 and set the liftgate to the new desired position.

CAUTION

  • Do not attempt to set the liftgate opening height below approximately 55 in (1,400 mm) from the floor using the height memory function. If a lower position is selected, the system will automatically store a height of approximately 55 in (1,400 mm) from the floor instead.
