WARNING

  • Always make sure the liftgate is fully closed and securely latched before driving. An improperly closed liftgate could open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Do not drive the Mitsubishi Outlander with the liftgate open. Exhaust gases could enter the passenger compartment and create a serious health hazard.
  • To reduce the risk of serious injury or death caused by unintended operation of the vehicle or its systems, including window entrapment or accidental door locking, never leave children, people who require assistance, or pets unattended inside the vehicle. On warm days, temperatures inside a closed vehicle can rise rapidly to dangerous levels.
  • Keep hands, fingers, feet, and other body parts clear of the liftgate and surrounding door frame while closing it to avoid being pinched or injured.
  • If snow or ice has accumulated on the liftgate, remove it before opening the liftgate.

The additional weight of snow or ice may cause the liftgate to close unexpectedly after it has been opened.

  • When opening the liftgate, make sure it reaches its fully open position and remains securely open. If the liftgate is opened only partway, it may drop unexpectedly and slam shut. Extra care is required when the vehicle is parked on an incline because the liftgate may be more difficult to open and may move unexpectedly. When the power remote liftgate height memory function is being used, the liftgate will open only to the memorized position.
  • Before opening or closing the liftgate, check the surrounding area carefully and make sure there is sufficient clearance behind and above the vehicle. Keep your head, hands, neck, and other body parts clear of the liftgate and its moving path.

CAUTION

  • Do not install or use accessory carriers that attach directly to the liftgate, as they may damage the liftgate or related components of the Mitsubishi Outlander.

NOTE

  • Gas struts A are installed to support the liftgate and assist in holding it in the open position.

To avoid damaging the gas struts or causing improper liftgate operation:

    • Do not hold or grip the gas struts while closing the liftgate.
    • Do not push, pull, bend, or otherwise apply force to the gas struts.
    • Do not attach plastic material, adhesive tape, labels, or similar items to the gas struts.
    • Do not tie string, cord, or other materials around the gas struts.
    • Do not hang bags, accessories, or any other objects from the gas struts.
