Mitsubishi Outlander manual liftgate opener switch and rear hatch operation

To open the manual liftgate, first unlock it and press opener switch A. Once the latch releases, lift the rear hatch upward by hand until it is fully open.

The liftgate can be unlocked using any of the following methods:

  • Pressing the "UNLOCK" Mitsubishi Outlander key UNLOCK button for releasing the liftgate button on the key.
  • Pressing the liftgate request switch, if so equipped.
  • Pressing the door handle request switch, if so equipped, or the liftgate opener switch while carrying the registered transmitter.
  • Pressing the power door lock switch to the unlock position.

NOTE

  • If the liftgate is not raised soon after the opener switch is pressed, the latch may no longer remain released and the liftgate may not open. If this occurs, press the liftgate opener switch again and then lift the hatch upward.

To close the liftgate, pull it downward and continue closing it until the latch engages securely. Confirm that the Mitsubishi Outlander liftgate is fully closed before driving.

Operating power remote liftgate (if so equipped)

WARNING

  • Before loading or unloading luggage, make sure the power remote liftgate is completely open and remains securely in the fully open position.

CAUTION

  • Do not apply excessive force to the power remote liftgate while it is opening or closing.

Forcing the liftgate against its powered movement could damage the mechanism or cause a malfunction.

NOTE

  • The power remote liftgate may not operate normally under the following conditions:
    • When the Mitsubishi Outlander is parked on a steep incline.
    • When the vehicle is exposed to strong winds.
    • When snow has accumulated on the power remote liftgate.
  • If the battery or a fuse is replaced while the power remote liftgate is open, automatic closing may not be available immediately. In this situation, close the liftgate manually.

For power remote liftgate operation, the vehicle must be shifted into the "P" (Park) position.

The power remote liftgate may not operate when the vehicle battery voltage is too low.

How to turn on/off the power remote liftgate

The power remote liftgate function can be enabled or disabled through the applicable setting in the multi-information display.

When power remote liftgate operation is turned off, powered opening and closing are unavailable. If the power remote liftgate button on the transmitter is pressed while the function is disabled, only the liftgate latch will be released.

NOTE

  • For Mitsubishi Outlander models equipped with a power remote liftgate and hands-free access, turn off the power remote liftgate function before washing, waxing, or servicing the vehicle, installing or removing a vehicle cover, or directing water toward the area around the kick motion sensor. This helps prevent unintended liftgate operation.
  • If power opening or closing is operated repeatedly in rapid succession, the system may enter a protective safety mode and temporarily disable powered operation. If this occurs, wait for the system to become available again before operating the power remote liftgate.
