WARNING
- When towing a trailer, turn off the power remote liftgate function to help prevent unintended liftgate operation caused by detection of the trailer wiring harness or other nearby components.

Kick motion sensor A, located at the rear bumper, allows the Mitsubishi Outlander power liftgate to be opened or closed without using your hands.
To operate the system, move your foot into and then quickly out of operating range B in a motion similar to a short kick. When the movement is detected correctly, the liftgate will begin opening or closing automatically.
For proper detection, move your foot quickly forward beneath the rear bumper, as close to the bumper as practical without touching it, then pull your foot straight back toward the rear of the vehicle.
NOTE
- The kick motion sensor may not operate correctly under the following conditions:
- When the vehicle is near a location that emits strong radio waves, such as a television tower, power station, electric vehicle charging station, or broadcasting station.
- When the Mitsubishi Outlander is parked near a parking meter.
- When you are wearing footwear made from material that conducts electricity poorly, such as rubber boots.
- When water is present on the rear bumper due to washing, rain, or similar conditions.
- When the foot is moved sideways instead of forward and backward.
- When repeated kicking motions are performed in rapid succession.
- The power remote liftgate may not operate if your foot remains within the sensor operating range after the kicking motion has been completed.
- On vehicles equipped with a tow-bar, the kick motion sensor may not reliably detect movement directly beneath the tow-bar. Normal detection is retained on either side of the tow-bar.
- Before washing, waxing, or servicing the vehicle, installing or removing a body cover, or directing water toward the area around the kick motion sensor, turn off the power remote liftgate function to prevent unintended activation.
- When a large amount of water is splashing onto the rear bumper, such as during heavy rain, unintended sensor detection may occur. During these conditions, avoid carrying the transmitter within the operating range if liftgate operation is not required.
CAUTION
- If hands-free access remains enabled, the power remote liftgate could operate unexpectedly if the kick motion sensor reacts to movement near the rear bumper. Sudden liftgate movement may cause injury.
- When you are carrying the transmitter near the liftgate, another person who is not carrying the transmitter may still be able to open or close the Mitsubishi Outlander liftgate by performing the required kicking motion.
- Do not allow your foot to strike the rear bumper while performing the kicking motion. Contact with the bumper may damage the bumper or kick motion sensor and could also cause personal injury.
- Do not perform the kicking motion near hot exhaust system components. Contact with hot exhaust parts can cause severe burns.
- Do not attempt to use the hands-free liftgate function while standing on an unstable surface, such as a steep slope, muddy ground, or another area where you could lose your balance.
Power open or close function
The power liftgate can be opened or closed automatically using the kick motion sensor when the required operating conditions are met.
1. Carry the registered transmitter with you.
2. Move your foot beneath the rear bumper and then quickly withdraw it, using a kicking motion within the operating range of the kick motion sensor.
3. When the motion is detected, the liftgate will automatically begin opening or closing.
Stop and reverse function
If a valid kicking motion is detected while the power remote liftgate is opening or closing, liftgate movement will stop immediately.
If another kicking motion is performed after the liftgate has stopped, it will begin moving in the opposite direction. The reverse function is available while you are carrying the registered Mitsubishi Outlander transmitter.
