WARNING

  • In freezing temperatures, washer fluid may freeze on the rear window glass and reduce rearward visibility. Before operating the rear washer in cold weather, warm the rear window with the defogger so the washer solution does not immediately freeze on the glass.

CAUTION

  • Do not operate the rear window washer continuously for more than 30 seconds, as prolonged operation may damage the washer pump.
  • Do not operate the washer when the washer fluid reservoir is empty.
  • Do not pour full-strength washer fluid concentrate directly into the window washer reservoir. Certain methyl alcohol-based washer fluid concentrates may permanently stain the grille if they are spilled while the reservoir is being filled.
  • Mix washer fluid concentrate with water according to the manufacturer's recommended proportions before adding it to the washer reservoir. Do not use the washer reservoir itself to mix the concentrate and water.

NOTE

  • In freezing temperatures, make sure the rubber portion of the rear wiper blade is not frozen to the rear window. If the blade is frozen or stuck to the glass, use the rear window defogger to warm the glass before attempting to operate the wiper.
  • If snow or ice prevents the rear window wiper from moving normally, the wiper may stop automatically to protect its motor. If this occurs, move the wiper switch to the OFF position and remove the snow or ice from the rear window and from around the wiper arm. After approximately 1 minute, switch the wiper on again and check that it operates normally.

Mitsubishi Outlander rear window wiper and washer switch operating positions

The rear window wiper and washer can be operated when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

Turn the switch clockwise from the OFF position to select the desired rear wiper operating mode.

  1. Intermittent (INT) - operates the rear wiper intermittently at a fixed interval that cannot be adjusted.
  2. Low (ON) - operates the rear wiper continuously at low speed.

Push the switch forward to position 3 to spray washer fluid onto the rear window. The rear wiper will also operate several times to clear the glass after the washer is activated.

Reverse Link feature: When the windshield wiper switch is turned on, moving the shift lever to the R (Reverse) position causes the rear window wiper to operate automatically, helping maintain rearward visibility while reversing the Mitsubishi Outlander.

NOTE

  • The Reverse Link function can be disabled through the applicable vehicle settings.
