Do not place cargo or apply a load directly to the roof side rails. Suitable cross bars must first be installed before carrying cargo, luggage, or other loads on the roof of the Mitsubishi Outlander. Mitsubishi Motors genuine accessory cross bars are available through authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealers. For information about compatible cross bars and installation, it is recommended that you consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.
The service load capacity of the roof side rails is 176 lb (80 kg). However, the load placed on the roof must also remain within the maximum capacity specified for the installed accessory cross bars. Do not exceed the lower applicable limit.
When loading cargo on the roof, make sure the total vehicle weight remains within the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and that the load on each axle does not exceed the corresponding Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for the front or rear axle. The GVWR and GAWR values are shown on the F.M.V.S.S. or C.V.M.S.S. certification label located on the driver's door pillar.
WARNING
- Always install appropriate cross bars on the roof side rails before placing any cargo on the roof.
Loading cargo directly onto the roof side rails or directly onto the vehicle roof can damage the Mitsubishi Outlander.
- Use additional caution when driving with the vehicle loaded at or near its cargo-carrying capacity, particularly when a substantial portion of the load is positioned on the roof cross bars.
- A heavy load carried high on the cross bars can affect vehicle stability and handling characteristics. Drive cautiously and avoid sudden steering inputs, abrupt lane changes, or other unusual maneuvers.
- Distribute the load across the roof rail cross bars as evenly as possible to avoid concentrating excessive weight in one area.
- Do not exceed the maximum permitted load for the installed roof rail cross bars.
- Secure all roof cargo firmly with suitable ropes or straps so it cannot slide, shift, or become detached while driving. During sudden braking or a collision, unsecured cargo may move unexpectedly and cause serious personal injury.
