The Mitsubishi Outlander second row seats can be adjusted to improve passenger comfort, provide suitable legroom and help occupants achieve the correct seat belt position. Complete all seat adjustments before driving, and always confirm that each seat and seatback is securely locked afterward.
Forward and backward

Pull adjusting lever A upward and hold it while sliding the seat forward or backward to the desired position. Release the lever to lock the seat, then gently move the seat to confirm that the locking mechanism is fully engaged.
Reclining

Pull reclining lever B and carefully move the seatback to the desired angle. Release the lever after positioning the seatback and make sure it locks securely. The center seating position reclines together with the left-side second row seat and is adjusted using the reclining lever on that seat.
To return the seatback toward the upright position, pull the lever while supporting the seatback, move it to the required angle and release the lever to lock it.
The reclining function accommodates occupants of different heights and body sizes and helps the shoulder and lap belt fit correctly. The seatback may also be reclined farther for resting when the Mitsubishi Outlander is safely parked, but it should remain properly positioned whenever the vehicle is moving.
WARNING
- Do not travel in a moving vehicle with the seatback excessively reclined. In this position, the shoulder belt may not remain correctly against the body. During a collision, an occupant could be thrown forward, suffer a neck injury from the shoulder belt or sustain other serious internal injuries.
- For the most effective protection while the vehicle is moving, keep the seatback upright. Sit fully back in the seat with both feet on the floor and adjust the seat belt so it fits securely across the body.
- After adjusting the seat or seatback, check that it is completely locked by gently attempting to move it.
- Always adjust the seat before the vehicle begins moving.
Attempting to adjust a seat while driving may cause unexpected seat movement, distract the driver and contribute to an accident.
- When an occupant is seated in the center position of the second row, both sides of the second row seat must be set to the same forward or backward position and the same seatback angle. Misaligned seat sections may prevent the center occupant from sitting securely and using the seat belt correctly.
CAUTION
- When changing the seat position, keep hands, feet, clothing and other objects away from the rails, hinges and other moving components to prevent injury or damage.
- Second row seat adjustments should be performed by an adult.
If a child operates the seat controls or levers, the seat may move unexpectedly and cause an injury or accident.
Before folding the second row seats
Prepare the seating area before folding either section of the second row seatback. Removing loose items and correctly positioning the surrounding components helps the seatback fold without obstruction or damage.
- Return the second row armrest to its stored position.
- Secure the outer seat belt in the belt hook so it does not become trapped by the folding seatback.
- If the second row seats are equipped with head restraints, slide the front seat forward and move the second row seat to its rearmost position. This creates sufficient clearance for the second row seatback to fold flat.
- Remove all drink containers and loose objects from the rear cup holders.
- Lower the center head restraint of the second row seat to its lowest position.

To fold down the seatback
The Mitsubishi Outlander second row seatback can be folded using either the strap on the seat or the one-touch lever in the cargo area. Before operating either release, confirm that no passenger, cargo or loose object is obstructing the seat.
Perform either of the following operations to fold down the seatback:
- Pull strap A located on the side of the applicable outboard seat, then guide the seatback forward as it folds.
- Fold the third row seat, then pull one-touch second row seat folding lever B located on the side of the cargo area.
To return the seatback
To return the second row seatback to its upright position, pull strap A or, after folding the third row seat, pull lever B. Raise the seatback firmly until the latch engages and the seatback remains securely upright.
While returning the seatback, make sure the seat belt is clear of the hinge and latch mechanism. A trapped or twisted belt may prevent the seatback from locking correctly and could damage the belt.
WARNING
- Never allow anyone to ride in the cargo area or on a second row seat while it is folded. These areas do not provide proper seating or occupant restraints, and using them for passengers could result in serious injury during a collision or sudden stop.
- Do not fold the second row seats while passengers are seated in the second or third row, or while cargo is resting on the second row seats. Movement of the seat may strike an occupant, trap part of the body or cause objects to shift unexpectedly.
- Secure all cargo properly to prevent it from sliding or shifting during driving, braking or cornering. Do not stack cargo higher than the seatbacks because it may move forward into the passenger compartment.
- When returning the seatbacks to the upright position, make certain that each section is fully secured in its latched position. An incompletely latched seatback may move during a collision or sudden stop and cause serious injury.
Walk-in mechanism
The walk-in mechanism allows the second row seats to tilt and slide forward, creating easier access to and from the third row seats of the Mitsubishi Outlander. Operate the mechanism slowly and maintain control of the seat throughout its movement.
WARNING
- After using the walk-in mechanism, carefully return the seat to its normal position while checking the location of all third row passengers. Raise the seatback until it latches securely, then verify that the entire seat is locked before the vehicle is driven.
CAUTION
- Before operating the walk-in mechanism, return the second row armrest to its stored position.
- When using the walk-in mechanism, hold and support the seatback while moving the seat slowly. If the seatback is allowed to tilt or slide suddenly, it may strike the face or another part of the body, or pinch a hand or foot and cause injury.
- Keep hands, feet, clothing and other objects away from the seat rails, hinges and moving components while operating the walk-in mechanism to avoid injury or damage.
- Make sure no passenger is occupying the second row seat and that no object is placed on or around it before operating the walk-in mechanism.
- Do not operate the walk-in mechanism while objects, drinks or containers are placed on the seat. They may fall, break, spill or soil the passenger compartment as the seat moves.

Armrest
Second row seats

Pull the strap and lower the center armrest into the position shown. When the armrest is no longer required, raise it fully and press it back into its stored position.
WARNING
- Never sit or place body weight on the armrest. The armrest is not designed to support an occupant, and doing so may damage its structure or result in serious injury if the vehicle moves suddenly.
