The Mitsubishi Outlander third row seats provide additional passenger capacity and can be adjusted or folded when the rear seating area is not required. Before carrying passengers, make sure the seatbacks, head restraints and seat belts are correctly positioned and that each seat is securely locked.

Seat adjustment

 Reclining

Mitsubishi Outlander third row seatback reclining strap and adjustment positions

Pull strap A while supporting the seatback, then move the seatback to the desired angle. Release the strap after adjustment and make sure the seatback locks securely in the selected position.

The reclining function allows the third row seatback angle to be adjusted for occupants of different sizes, helping the lap and shoulder belt fit correctly. The seatback may also be reclined to provide a more relaxed seating position while the Mitsubishi Outlander is safely parked.

WARNING

  • The third row seats are designed for no more than two properly restrained occupants, and neither occupant should exceed 63 inches (160 cm) in height.

Exceeding these limits may prevent the seating position and restraint system from providing their intended protection and can increase the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.

  • Do not ride in a moving vehicle with the seatback excessively reclined. The shoulder belt may no longer lie correctly against the body. In a collision, an occupant could be thrown forward, suffer an injury to the neck from the shoulder belt or sustain other serious internal injuries.
  • For the most effective protection while the vehicle is moving, keep the seatback upright. Sit fully back in the seat with both feet on the floor and adjust the seat belt so it fits securely across the body.
  • After adjusting the seatback, check that it is fully locked by gently attempting to move it forward and backward.

  • Do not place fingers, hands or other body parts in area B between the seats. Movement of the seat may create a pinch point and cause injury.
  • Adjust the third row seats before driving or before the vehicle begins moving. Adjusting a seat while driving may distract the driver and contribute to an accident. If a driver or passenger changes the seat position while the vehicle is moving, sudden seat movement may also increase the risk of injury.

 Folding

Folding the third row seats creates additional cargo space in the Mitsubishi Outlander. Before lowering either seatback, remove the head restraints, store the seat belt buckles and clear all loose items from the seating area.

Before folding the third row seats, remove the head restraints from the seatbacks.

Press and hold lock knob 1, then pull head restraint 2 upward and remove it from the seatback. Keep control of the head restraint as it is lifted from the guide posts.

Store the third row seat belt buckles in their designated positions before folding the seats so they do not become trapped beneath the seatback or interfere with the folding mechanism.

Open the luggage floor board and place head restraints A in the designated storage area. Position them securely so they do not move around beneath the cargo floor.

After the head restraints and seat belt buckles have been stored, pull strap 2 and guide the seatback forward into the folded position. Lower it carefully and make sure no object is caught beneath or behind the seatback.

WARNING

  • Never allow anyone to ride in the cargo area or on a third row seat while it is folded. These locations do not provide a proper seating position or occupant restraint, and passengers could suffer serious injury during a sudden stop or collision.
  • Secure all cargo with suitable ropes or straps to prevent it from sliding, rolling or shifting while the vehicle is moving. Do not stack cargo higher than the seatbacks. During hard braking or a collision, unsecured items may be thrown into the passenger compartment and cause injury.
  • When returning a third row seatback to the upright position, make certain that it is completely engaged in the latched position. An improperly secured seatback may move during sudden braking or a collision and injure an occupant.

 Returning

1. Pull the strap and raise the seatback to the upright position until the latch engages securely. Push and pull lightly on the seatback to confirm that it is fully locked and does not move unexpectedly.

2. Reinstall the head restraints in the correct third row seat positions. Push each restraint into its guide openings and confirm that it is securely retained before the seat is occupied.
