WARNING
- In freezing temperatures, washer fluid may freeze on the windshield and reduce or obstruct the driver's view, creating a risk of an accident. Before using the windshield washer in cold weather, warm the windshield with the defroster or defogger so the fluid does not immediately freeze on the glass.
CAUTION
- Do not operate the washer continuously for an extended period, as prolonged operation may damage or cause failure of the washer pump.
- Do not operate the windshield washer when the washer fluid reservoir is empty.
- Do not pour full-strength washer fluid concentrate directly into the window washer reservoir. Certain methyl alcohol-based concentrates may permanently stain the grille if they are spilled while the reservoir is being filled.
- Mix washer fluid concentrate with water according to the manufacturer's recommended proportions before adding it to the washer reservoir. Do not use the Mitsubishi Outlander washer reservoir itself as a container for mixing concentrate and water.
NOTE
- In freezing weather, check that the rubber sections of the wiper blades are not frozen to the windshield before operating the wipers. If a blade is frozen or stuck to the glass, use the air conditioner's defroster or defogger function, or the wiper deicer if so equipped, to warm the windshield and release the blade.
- If snow or ice prevents the windshield wipers from moving normally, the wipers may stop automatically to protect the wiper motor. If this happens, move the wiper switch to the OFF position and remove the snow or ice from the windshield and the area around the wiper arms. After approximately 1 minute, turn the wipers on again and check that they operate normally.
Windshield wiper and washer operation

The windshield wiper and washer system can be operated when the ignition switch is in the ON position.
Push the wiper lever downward to select one of the following windshield wiper operating speeds:
- Intermittent - the interval between wiper sweeps can be adjusted by turning the control knob toward A (Faster) or B (Slower). The intermittent wiping rate also changes according to vehicle speed. For example, at higher vehicle speeds, the interval between sweeps becomes shorter and the wipers operate more frequently.
- Low - continuous wiping at low speed.
- High - continuous wiping at high speed.
Push the lever upward to position 4 to operate the windshield wipers for a single sweep.
Pull the lever toward you to position 5 to spray washer fluid onto the windshield. When the washer operates, the windshield wipers also make several sweeps to clear the glass.
NOTE
- The vehicle speed-dependent intermittent wiper function may be disabled through the applicable settings.
Rain-sensing auto wiper system (if so equipped)

The rain-sensing automatic wiper system can activate the windshield wipers and adjust their operating speed automatically according to the amount of rainfall and the vehicle's speed. The system uses a rain sensor located near the upper portion of the windshield to detect moisture on the glass.
To activate the rain-sensing automatic wiper system, move the wiper lever downward to the AUTO position.
When AUTO mode is selected while the engine is running, the windshield wipers will make one sweep.
The sensitivity of the rain sensor can be adjusted by turning the control knob upward toward A (High) or downward toward B (Low).
- High - increases sensor sensitivity, allowing the wipers to respond more readily to detected moisture.
- Low - reduces sensor sensitivity, requiring more moisture before the automatic wipers respond.
To switch the rain-sensing automatic wiper system off, move the lever upward to the OFF position. You can also leave automatic operation by moving the lever downward to the LO or HI position for continuous manual wiping.

CAUTION
- Do not touch rain sensor A or the surrounding windshield area while the wiper switch is in the AUTO position and the engine is running. The windshield wipers may begin operating unexpectedly, which could cause injury or damage to the wiper system.
- The rain-sensing automatic wipers are intended primarily for use during rainfall. If the switch is left in the AUTO position, the wipers may operate unexpectedly when dirt, fingerprints, oily residue, insects, or other contamination is present on or near the rain sensor. Exhaust gases or moisture affecting the sensor may also cause unintended wiper operation.
- Do not attach stickers, labels, or similar objects to the windshield in the rain sensor area. Obstructing the sensor may prevent it from detecting the amount of water on the windshield correctly and can interfere with automatic wiper operation.
- If windshield replacement becomes necessary, it is recommended that you contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer so the rain-sensing system can continue to operate correctly.
- The automatic wipers may not operate even during rainfall if raindrops do not reach the section of windshield monitored by the rain sensor.
- If the windshield has been treated with a water-repellent coating, the rain-sensing automatic wipers may operate at a higher speed than expected even when rainfall is relatively light.
- Always turn off the rain-sensing automatic wiper system before taking the Mitsubishi Outlander through a car wash to prevent unexpected wiper operation.
- Use of genuine wiper blades is recommended to support correct and consistent operation of the rain-sensing automatic wiper system.
