WARNING

  • Never rely solely on Hill Start Assist [HSA] to prevent the Mitsubishi Outlander from rolling backward on a hill. Always drive carefully and remain prepared to use the brake pedal. When stopped on a steep slope, keep the brake pedal firmly depressed.

Use particular caution when stopped on icy, snowy, or muddy slopes. If the vehicle rolls backward unexpectedly, the driver may lose control, which could result in a collision, serious injury, or death.

  • Hill Start Assist [HSA] is not designed to hold the vehicle stationary on a hill for an extended period.

Keep the brake pedal depressed when the Mitsubishi Outlander is stopped on a steep grade. Failure to maintain braking pressure could allow the vehicle to roll backward and may result in a collision or serious injury.

  • Hill Start Assist [HSA] may not prevent backward movement under every vehicle load, slope, or road surface condition.

Always be ready to depress the brake pedal immediately if the vehicle begins to roll backward. Failure to do so could result in a collision or serious personal injury.

Hill Start Assist [HSA] automatically keeps the brakes applied for a short period when the Mitsubishi Outlander is stopped on a hill. This helps reduce backward movement while the driver releases the brake pedal and moves their foot to the accelerator pedal.

Hill Start Assist [HSA] operates automatically when the following conditions are satisfied:

  • The transmission is shifted into a forward or reverse driving position.
  • The vehicle has been brought to a complete stop on a hill by depressing the brake pedal.

The maximum brake-holding period is approximately 2 seconds.

After approximately 2 seconds, Hill Start Assist [HSA] releases the brakes and the vehicle may begin to roll backward if the driver has not applied the accelerator or brake pedal.

Hill Start Assist [HSA] does not operate when the transmission is in N (Neutral) or P (Park), or when the Mitsubishi Outlander is stopped on a flat and level surface.

If the Active stability control [ASC] warning light is illuminated in the meter, Hill Start Assist [HSA] will not operate.
