WARNING
- Before driving, always confirm that the hood is completely closed and securely latched. If the hood is not properly locked, it could open unexpectedly while the Mitsubishi Outlander is moving and obstruct the driver's view, potentially causing an accident.
- Never attempt to open the hood if steam or smoke is coming from the engine compartment. Opening the hood under these conditions could expose you to hot vapor, fluids, or components and may result in serious injury.

1. Pull hood lock release handle 1, located below the driver's side of the instrument panel. The hood will release from the primary latch and rise slightly.
2. From the front of the vehicle, reach underneath the front edge of the hood and pull lever 2 upward in the direction of the arrow with your fingertips, as illustrated. While holding the lever, raise the hood.
3. Remove the support rod from its retaining position and insert it securely into slot 3 to hold the hood open.
When removing or reinstalling the support rod, hold coated section A. Avoid touching exposed metal sections directly, as they may remain hot immediately after the engine has been switched off.
When closing the hood:
1. Support the hood securely while removing the support rod, then return the rod to its original retaining position.
2. Lower the hood slowly until it is approximately 8 to 12 in (20 to 30 cm) above the hood latch, then release it and allow it to drop into the locked position.
3. Confirm that the hood is fully closed and securely latched before driving the Mitsubishi Outlander.
