Mitsubishi Outlander child restraint top tether strap routed over the rear seatback and attached to the tether anchor

WARNING

  • Child restraint anchors are designed to withstand only the loads applied by a correctly installed child restraint. Never use these anchors to attach adult seat belts, secure cargo or connect other equipment to the vehicle. Improper use may damage the anchor and prevent a child restraint from being secured correctly. A child could be seriously injured or killed in a collision if the restraint is attached to a damaged anchor.

The child restraint top tether strap must be used whenever a compatible child restraint is installed with the LATCH lower anchor attachments in the Mitsubishi Outlander.

Begin by securing the child restraint to the correct LATCH lower anchors and confirming that both attachments are fully engaged.

1. Remove the head restraint when necessary to provide the correct fit for the child restraint, and store it securely where it cannot move around inside the vehicle. Reinstall the head restraint after the child restraint has been removed.

2. Route the top tether strap over the seatback in the manner specified by the child restraint manufacturer. Make sure the strap is not twisted or trapped behind the restraint.

3. Attach the top tether hook securely to the designated tether anchor point shown in the illustration. Use only the anchor assigned to the seating position where the restraint is installed.

4. Complete the applicable child restraint installation procedure described in this section, then tighten the tether strap according to the restraint manufacturer's instructions until unnecessary slack has been removed.
