This section explains the operation and key functions of the following driver-assistance features available for the Mitsubishi Outlander:
- MI-PILOT Assist (general system operation)
- MI-PILOT Assist with Navi-link (additional functionality, if so equipped)
WARNING
- Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for proper use of the MI-PILOT Assist system could result in serious injury or death.
- MI-PILOT Assist is not a self-driving or autonomous driving system. Within the operating limitations described in this manual, it is designed only to assist the driver with certain driving tasks.
- The MI-PILOT Assist system is not a substitute for proper driving procedures and cannot compensate for careless, inattentive, or distracted driving. MI-PILOT Assist may not always steer the Mitsubishi Outlander sufficiently to keep it within the travel lane, and the system is not designed to prevent a loss of vehicle control. The driver remains responsible for staying alert, driving safely, maintaining the correct lane position, and keeping full control of the vehicle at all times.
- The capabilities of the MI-PILOT Assist system are limited, and the system cannot operate correctly under every combination of road, traffic, weather, and driving conditions.
The driver must remain attentive, monitor surrounding traffic, keep the vehicle properly positioned in its lane, and be prepared to take complete control whenever necessary.
- MI-PILOT Assist is a driver-assistance feature only. It is not a collision warning system and is not designed to prevent or avoid every collision.
- The MI-PILOT Assist system is intended for highway use and is not designed for normal city driving. Failure to brake or steer manually when required may result in a serious accident.
- Always obey posted speed limits and never select a system speed that exceeds the applicable legal limit.
- Never remove your hands from the steering wheel while driving. Keep both hands available for steering and remain prepared to control the Mitsubishi Outlander at all times.
- Never unfasten your safety belt while MI-PILOT Assist is operating. Unfastening the driver's safety belt automatically cancels the MI-PILOT Assist system.
- The MI-PILOT Assist system does not react when the vehicle approaches stationary or slow-moving vehicles.
- Always drive carefully and remain fully attentive while using MI-PILOT Assist.
Read and understand the Owner's Manual thoroughly before operating the MI-PILOT Assist system. To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, never rely on the system to prevent an accident or to control vehicle speed during an emergency.
Use MI-PILOT Assist only when road, traffic, weather, and driving conditions are appropriate for safe system operation.

The MI-PILOT Assist system is designed to assist the driver when following another vehicle traveling in the same lane and in the same direction, while also providing steering assistance under suitable conditions.
The MI-PILOT Assist system uses a multi-sensing front camera B installed behind the windshield to monitor lane markings and a radar sensor A located at the front of the vehicle to measure the distance to a vehicle traveling ahead in the same lane. If a slower-moving vehicle is detected, the system can help reduce the speed of the Mitsubishi Outlander so that the selected following distance is maintained. When clear lane markings are detected and other operating conditions are satisfied, the system can also provide steering assistance to help keep the vehicle centered within the travel lane.
NOTE
- Always make sure that the areas around the front camera and radar sensor remain clean and unobstructed. Dirt, snow, ice, water, or other material may interfere with proper MI-PILOT Assist operation.
