WARNING

  • The following limitations apply to the Lane Departure Prevention [LDP] system. Failure to understand these limitations or to follow the instructions for proper use of the system could result in serious injury or death.
  • The LDP system may activate if the driver changes lanes without first operating the turn signal. It may also respond in situations where traffic is intentionally directed across existing lane markings, such as in a construction zone. If this occurs, the driver may need to apply corrective steering input to complete the intended lane change safely.
  • Because the LDP system may not activate under certain road, weather, visibility, or lane-marking conditions described in this section, it cannot be expected to provide steering assistance every time the Mitsubishi Outlander begins to leave its lane. The driver must always be prepared to steer the vehicle back into the proper position.
  • The LDP system does not operate at speeds below approximately 37 MPH (60 km/h), and it cannot operate when the lane markings cannot be detected reliably.
  • When the LDP system is operating, avoid making excessive, abrupt, or unnecessary steering movements.

Sudden steering inputs can affect vehicle stability and may result in loss of control.

  • Do not rely on the LDP system under the following conditions because lane detection or steering assistance may not operate correctly:
    • During adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, or snow.
    • When driving on slippery surfaces, including roads covered with ice or snow.
    • When driving on winding, rough, or uneven roads.
    • When normal traffic lanes are closed or altered because of road construction or repair work.
    • When driving through temporary or makeshift lanes.
    • When the travel lane is unusually narrow.
    • When the Mitsubishi Outlander is being driven with abnormal tire conditions, including excessive tire wear, low tire pressure, use of a spare tire, installation of tire chains, or use of non-standard wheels.
    • When the vehicle is equipped with non-original brake, steering, or suspension components.
    • When towing a trailer or another vehicle.
    • On roads with multiple parallel lane markings, faded or poorly painted markings, yellow lane markings, non-standard markings, or lane lines that are obscured by water, dirt, snow, or similar material.
    • On roads where old or discontinued lane markings remain visible and can still be detected by the camera.
    • On roads with sharp curves.
    • On roads containing strong visual contrasts such as shadows, snow, standing water, wheel ruts, pavement seams, or lines remaining after road repairs. The LDP system may mistakenly recognize these features as lane markings.
    • On sections of road where the travel lane merges with another lane or separates into multiple lanes.
    • When the direction of travel does not align closely with the detected lane markings.
    • When driving too close to the vehicle ahead, preventing the lane camera unit from obtaining a clear view of the road and lane markings.
    • When rain, snow, dirt, or other material adheres to the windshield in front of the lane camera unit and obstructs its view.
    • When headlight illumination is reduced because the lenses are dirty or the headlight aim is not adjusted correctly.
    • When strong light enters the lane camera unit, such as direct sunlight shining toward the front of the Mitsubishi Outlander at sunrise or sunset.
    • When ambient brightness changes suddenly, such as when the vehicle enters or exits a tunnel or passes beneath a bridge.
