LATCH system anchor location

The Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with dedicated anchor points for child restraints that are compatible with the LATCH system. This anchorage arrangement may also be identified as ISOFIX or an ISOFIX-compatible system. When an approved child restraint is installed with these anchors, the vehicle seat belt is not required unless the combined weight of the child and child restraint exceeds 65 lb (29.5 kg). If the combined weight is greater than 65 lb (29.5 kg), install the restraint with the vehicle seat belt rather than the lower anchors.
Always follow the child restraint manufacturer's installation instructions, including all weight limits, connector-routing guidance and procedures for checking that the restraint is securely attached.
LATCH lower anchor
WARNING
- Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for the correct use and installation of a child restraint may result in serious injury or death to a child or another occupant during sudden braking or a collision:
- Attach a LATCH-compatible child restraint only at the seating positions identified in the illustration.
- Do not install a child restraint in the second row center seating position using the LATCH lower anchors. The available anchors are not intended to secure a restraint in the center position, and the installation will not be reliable.
- Inspect the lower anchor area with your fingers before connecting the child restraint.
Make sure the anchors are not covered or obstructed by seat belt webbing, seat cushion material or another object. A connector attached to an obstructed anchor may not engage correctly, leaving the child restraint inadequately secured.
- Child restraint anchors are engineered only for the forces created by a correctly installed child restraint. Never use them to secure adult seat belts, cargo, accessories or other equipment. Misuse may bend or damage the anchors, and a child restraint attached to a damaged anchor may fail to remain secure during a collision, resulting in serious injury or death.
LATCH lower anchor location
The LATCH lower anchors are provided only for the outboard seating positions in the second row of the Mitsubishi Outlander. Do not attempt to use these anchors to install a child restraint in the second row center seating position.

The LATCH lower anchor points are positioned at the junction between the second row seat cushions and seatbacks. Locate both anchors for the selected outboard seating position before beginning installation.

LATCH rigid attachment

LATCH-compatible child restraints are equipped with two connectors that attach to the pair of lower anchors at an approved seating position. Depending on the restraint design, these connectors may be mounted on adjustable webbing straps or built into rigid attachment arms.
When the child restraint is installed correctly with the LATCH lower anchors and remains within the permitted combined weight limit, the vehicle seat belt does not need to be used to secure it.
Check the restraint for a label confirming LATCH compatibility. The same information, together with detailed connector and tightening instructions, should also appear in the documentation supplied by the child restraint manufacturer.
Before installing a child restraint in the Mitsubishi Outlander, carefully read the relevant instructions in this manual and all directions provided with the restraint. Connect both lower attachments to the correct anchors, tighten them as specified and verify that the restraint does not move excessively at the attachment point.
Top tether anchor
WARNING
- Secure all cargo so it cannot shift into or press against an attached top tether strap. Loose cargo or an object resting against the strap may damage it during normal driving or a collision. If the tonneau cover, where equipped, contacts the tether strap after installation, remove the cover from the vehicle before carrying a child in the restraint.
A damaged top tether strap may not restrain the upper portion of the child seat correctly, which could result in serious injury or death to the child during a collision.
Top tether anchor point locations

WARNING
- Top tether and lower child restraint anchors are designed only for loads produced by correctly installed child restraints. Never use them to attach adult seat belts, luggage, cargo straps or other equipment. Damaged anchors may not hold a child restraint securely and could contribute to serious injury or death in a collision.
The top tether anchor points are located on the rear side of the applicable second row seatbacks. Identify the anchor assigned to the seating position being used before routing the tether strap.
If the child restraint includes a top tether strap, attach and tighten the strap whenever the restraint is installed with either the LATCH lower anchors or the vehicle seat belt. Route the strap exactly as directed by the child restraint manufacturer and make sure it is not twisted or obstructed.
If you have questions about installing a child restraint with a top tether strap in a rear seating position, Mitsubishi Motors recommends consulting an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for assistance.
