1. Apply the parking brake securely before attempting to start the Mitsubishi Outlander.

2. Confirm that the vehicle is in the P (Park) position.

The transmitter must be carried with you when operating the push-button ignition switch.

3. Push the ignition switch to the ON position.

Depress the brake pedal, then push the ignition switch to start the engine.

To start the engine immediately, push and release the ignition switch while depressing the brake pedal. The engine can be started this way regardless of the current ignition switch position.

  • If the engine is difficult to start in extremely cold weather or during a restart, depress the accelerator pedal slightly, approximately 1/3 of the way to the floor, and hold it while cranking the engine. Release the accelerator pedal as soon as the engine starts.
  • If the engine is difficult to start because it is flooded, fully depress the accelerator pedal and hold it against the floor.

Push the ignition switch to the ON position to crank the engine. After approximately 5 or 6 seconds, stop cranking by pushing the ignition switch to OFF. Then release the accelerator pedal.

With your foot completely off the accelerator pedal, depress the brake pedal and push the push-button ignition switch again to crank and start the engine.

If the engine starts but does not continue running, repeat the procedure above.

CAUTION

  • Do not operate the starter continuously for more than 15 seconds. If the Mitsubishi Outlander engine does not start, push the ignition switch to OFF and wait at least 10 seconds before trying again. Repeated cranking without this waiting period could damage the starter.

4. Warm-up

After the engine starts, allow it to idle for at least 30 seconds. Do not race the engine while it is warming up. Begin driving at a moderate speed for a short distance, especially in cold weather, so the engine can warm gradually under light load. In cold conditions, allow the engine to continue running for a minimum of 2 - 3 minutes before shutting it off. Repeatedly starting and stopping the engine over a short period can make the next start more difficult.

When the engine is cold and is being revved without load, engine speed is limited to approximately 4,500 rpm.

5. To stop the engine, push the park button to shift the Mitsubishi Outlander to the P (Park) position, then push the ignition switch to the OFF position.

NOTE

  • Avoid situations that may gradually discharge the vehicle battery and lead to a no-start condition, including the following:

1. Installing or using electronic accessories for extended periods while the engine is not running, including phone chargers, GPS devices, DVD players, and similar equipment.

2. Leaving the vehicle unused for long periods or using it mainly for short-distance trips that may not provide enough time to recharge the battery.

Under these conditions, the battery may need to be charged periodically to maintain sufficient battery condition and reliable starting performance.
