Mitsubishi Outlander red brake warning light symbol or Mitsubishi Outlander alternate red brake system warning light symbol Brake warning light (red)

This warning light monitors important functions of the Mitsubishi Outlander brake system and should never be ignored if it remains illuminated while driving.

 Low brake fluid warning light

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the brake warning light illuminates briefly as part of the system check and then turns off. If the light comes on while the engine is running, stop the vehicle in a safe location and complete the following checks:

1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. If additional brake fluid is required, add the specified fluid and have the entire brake system inspected for the cause of the low level. Mitsubishi Motors recommends having this service performed by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

2. If the brake fluid level is within the correct range, the warning system or another brake-related component may require inspection. Mitsubishi Motors recommends having the Mitsubishi Outlander checked by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

Anti-lock Braking System [ABS] warning indicator

If the parking brake is fully released and the brake fluid level is adequate, but both the red brake warning light and the Anti-lock Braking System [ABS] warning light remain illuminated, the ABS may not be operating correctly. Have the brake system inspected and repaired if necessary. Mitsubishi Motors recommends visiting an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for this service.

WARNING

  • The brake system may not be operating correctly whenever the red brake warning light remains on. Continuing to drive can be dangerous. If braking performance appears normal and you determine that the vehicle can be moved safely, drive slowly and carefully to the nearest qualified repair facility. If there is any doubt about braking ability, have the Mitsubishi Outlander towed instead.
  • With the engine stopped, or when the brake fluid level is low, pressing the brake pedal may require considerably more force. Pedal travel and stopping distance may also increase.
  • If the brake fluid level is below the minimum or MIN mark on the reservoir, do not drive the vehicle until the brake system has been inspected. Mitsubishi Motors recommends visiting an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for this service.

Mitsubishi Outlander battery charging system warning light symbol Charge warning light

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the charge warning light illuminates during the initial system check and then turns off.

If the light comes on while the engine is running, the charging system may not be functioning correctly. Stop the Mitsubishi Outlander in a safe location, turn off the engine and inspect the alternator belt. If the belt is loose, damaged, broken or missing, or if the warning light remains illuminated after the engine is restarted, have the vehicle serviced immediately.

Mitsubishi Motors recommends visiting an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for diagnosis and repair of the charging system.

CAUTION

  • Do not continue driving if the alternator belt is loose, broken or missing, as the battery may no longer be charged and additional engine systems may be affected.

Mitsubishi Outlander electric shift control system warning light symbol Electric shift control system warning light

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the electric shift control system warning light illuminates briefly and then turns off. This confirms that the system has completed its initial check and is operating normally.

The warning light illuminates if a malfunction is detected in the electric shift control system. At the same time, the master warning light may come on, an audible chime may sound and the following message may appear in the multi-information display: "When Parked Apply Parking Brake".

When the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position, a continuous warning chime will sound.

Confirm that the parking brake is fully applied before leaving the Mitsubishi Outlander.

Have the electric shift control system inspected immediately by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or another qualified repair facility.

This warning light alerts the driver when the engine oil pressure may be too low for safe engine operation.

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the engine oil pressure warning light illuminates during the system check. After the engine starts and normal oil pressure is established, the warning light should turn off.

This sequence confirms that the engine oil pressure monitoring circuit is functioning.

If the engine oil pressure warning light illuminates or flashes while the engine is running, the lubrication system may not be maintaining sufficient oil pressure.

Stop the Mitsubishi Outlander in a safe location immediately and switch off the engine. Contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or qualified repair facility for assistance. Do not restart the engine until the cause has been identified.

CAUTION

  • Continuing to operate the engine while the engine oil pressure warning light is illuminated may cause severe internal engine damage.
  • The engine oil pressure warning light does not indicate the quantity of oil in the engine. Check the engine oil level separately with the dipstick according to the procedure in this manual.

Mitsubishi Outlander front seat belt warning light symbol Front seat belt warning light and chime

The warning light and audible chime remind the driver and front passenger to fasten their seat belts correctly before the vehicle begins moving.

The warning light illuminates whenever the ignition switch is placed in the ON position and remains on until the applicable seat belts are securely fastened.

The front passenger seat belt warning light also illuminates when the front passenger seat is occupied and the passenger's seat belt has not been fastened.

When the Mitsubishi Outlander exceeds 10 MPH (15 km/h), the warning light will flash until the driver and front passenger seat belts are fastened. The warning chime will also sound for approximately 95 seconds unless both front seat belts are secured.

The restraint system considers all occupants properly fastened when every front-row occupant has secured their seat belt and the number of fastened rear seat belts matches the highest number detected during the current journey. The journey is considered complete, and the rear seat belt monitoring system resets, when either rear door is opened while the vehicle is stationary.

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, an audible reminder will sound for approximately 6 seconds unless the driver's seat belt is securely fastened.

NOTE

  • The warning light will also remain illuminated for approximately 75 seconds in the following situations:
    • When the ignition is switched to the ON position and one or more rear-row occupants have not fastened their seat belts.
    • When either rear door is opened while the Mitsubishi Outlander is stationary and one or more rear-row seat belts remain unfastened.
  • The rear seat belt warning light may illuminate even when no passengers are seated in the rear seats.
  • If all front-row occupants have fastened their seat belts and no warning chime is sounding, the driver can acknowledge the rear seat belt warning by pressing the scroll dial on the left side of the steering wheel.

If the driver still does not respond, an audible alert sounds and the warning flashes in the multi-information display. The system may then apply the brakes briefly to prompt the driver to resume steering and take full control of the Mitsubishi Outlander.

Until the fault has been diagnosed and repaired, one or more Supplemental Restraint System components or seat belt pretensioners may not operate correctly during a collision.

WARNING

  • If the SRS airbag warning light remains on, the front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags and/or seat belt pretensioners may fail to operate as intended in an accident. To reduce the risk of injury to the driver and passengers, have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible. Mitsubishi Motors recommends visiting an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for this service.
