NOTE

  • Pushing the MI-PILOT Assist switch turns the Lane Departure Prevention [LDP] and Active Blind Spot Assist [ABSA] systems on or off at the same time.
  • The BSW/LCA functions are automatically enabled whenever ABSA is active.
  • To enable or disable ABSA independently, use the multi-information display and select "Settings", "Driver Assistance", "Blind Spot", then "Active Assist [ABSA]".
  • The ABSA system is turned off when the Mitsubishi Outlander engine is switched off.
  • Settings selected through the multi-information display are retained after the engine is turned off.

How to use the BSW/LCA

To turn the BSW/LCA function on or off, use the multi-information display and select "Settings", "Driver Assistance", "Blind Spot", then "Warning [BSW]".

How to use the ABSA

After "Active Assist [ABSA]" has been enabled by selecting "Settings", "Driver Assistance", "Blind Spot", then "Active Assist [ABSA]" in the multi-information display, push the MI-PILOT Assist switch to activate the system.

BSW/LCA/ABSA precautions

WARNING

  • Do not use Active Blind Spot Assist [ABSA] under the following conditions, because the system may not operate correctly and unexpected vehicle behavior could contribute to an accident.
    • During adverse weather such as rain, fog, or snow.
    • When driving on slippery surfaces, including roads covered with ice or snow.
    • When driving on winding, rough, or uneven roads.
    • When driving through road construction areas or on roads with temporary lane restrictions.
    • When the travel lane is unusually narrow.
    • When the Mitsubishi Outlander is being driven with abnormal tire conditions, including excessive tire wear, low tire pressure, use of a spare tire, installation of tire chains, or use of non-standard wheels.
    • When the vehicle is equipped with non-original brake, steering, or suspension components.
  • When towing a trailer or another vehicle, the BSW/LCA/ABSA systems may not operate correctly or may not provide the expected warnings or assistance.
  • The following types of vehicles or traffic situations may be difficult for the radar sensors to detect accurately, and the systems may not operate as expected:
    • Low-profile or narrow vehicles, such as motorcycles.
    • Vehicles that remain within the detection zone while the Mitsubishi Outlander accelerates from a stop.
    • A vehicle approaching rapidly from behind.
    • A vehicle that your vehicle overtakes quickly.
    • A vehicle merging into an adjacent lane while traveling at approximately the same speed as your vehicle.
  • Vehicles in an adjacent lane may not be detected correctly under the following conditions:
    • When strong light, including direct sunlight, affects the sensing area or visibility.
    • When there is a sudden change in brightness, such as when the Mitsubishi Outlander enters or exits a tunnel.
    • When driving on a road with extremely wide lanes.
    • When visibility is reduced by adverse weather such as rain, snow, or fog.
    • When water, snow, sand, or similar material is thrown into the air around the vehicle.
    • When dirt, ice, snow, or other material adheres to the radar sensor area.
    • When a sticker, including a transparent sticker, is attached near a radar sensor.
    • When non-genuine accessories are installed around a radar sensor.
    • When the area surrounding a radar sensor has been additionally painted.
  • Under the following conditions, lane markings may not be detected accurately and the ABSA system may not provide the expected warning or steering assistance:
    • When driving on roads with difficult-to-detect lane markings, including faded or unclear lines, yellow lane markings, unusual markings, or lane markings obscured by water, dirt, snow, or similar material.
    • On roads with sharp curves.
    • When previously erased lane markings remain visible on the road surface.
    • On roads with strong visual contrasts such as shadows, snow, standing water, wheel ruts, pavement seams, or lines remaining after road repairs. The system may incorrectly interpret these features as lane markings and may issue a warning or provide steering control.
    • On roads where the travel lane merges with another lane or separates into multiple lanes.
    • When the Mitsubishi Outlander's direction of travel does not align closely with the detected lane markings.
    • When driving too close to the vehicle ahead, limiting the lane camera unit's view of the road and lane markings.
    • When rain, snow, dirt, or other material adheres to the windshield and interferes with the camera's field of view.
    • When headlight illumination is reduced because the lenses are dirty or the headlight aim is not adjusted correctly.

CAUTION

  • The sensor may not be able to detect certain types of objects or road users, including:
    • Pedestrians, bicycles, animals, and other similar objects.
    • Vehicles approaching from the opposite direction.

NOTE

  • Excessive noise inside or outside the Mitsubishi Outlander may make the warning buzzer difficult to hear or prevent the driver from hearing it clearly.
  • When the vehicle is traveling on a road with extremely wide lanes, the system may not reliably detect vehicles traveling in the next adjacent lane. Conversely, when driving on a road with extremely narrow lanes, the system may detect a vehicle traveling in a lane beyond the immediately adjacent lane.
  • The radar sensors are designed to disregard most stationary objects. However, certain roadside or stationary objects, including guardrails, walls, foliage, and parked vehicles, may occasionally be detected depending on their position and the surrounding driving conditions.
  • Steering control is not performed under any of the following conditions:
    • When the brake pedal is depressed.
    • When the driver performs a sudden or rapid steering operation.
    • When an approach warning from MI-PILOT Assist, the Forward Collision Mitigation System [FCM], or the Predictive Forward Collision Warning [PFCW] is sounding.
    • When the Forward Collision Mitigation System [FCM] is operating.
    • When the hazard warning flasher is activated.
    • When the Mitsubishi Outlander is traveling at high speed on curved roads.
  • While steering control is active, pressing the accelerator pedal further may cause the system to cancel steering assistance. The driver must remain prepared to control the vehicle directly whenever system assistance is interrupted or canceled.
