WARNING
- The following limitations apply to the RCTA system. Failure to operate the vehicle with these limitations in mind could result in serious injury or death.
- Always check the surrounding area and physically turn to look behind the Mitsubishi Outlander before backing up. The radar sensors are primarily designed to detect approaching moving vehicles and cannot recognize every type of object or road user, including:
- Pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, animals, or child-operated toy vehicles.
- A vehicle passing at a speed greater than approximately 19 MPH (30 km/h).
- A vehicle passing at a speed lower than approximately 5 MPH (8 km/h).
- The radar sensors may be unable to detect
approaching vehicles in certain parking or roadway situations, including:
- Illustration a: When a vehicle parked next to the Mitsubishi Outlander blocks or obstructs the radar sensor beam.
- Illustration b: When the vehicle is parked in an angled parking space, changing the effective detection area of the sensors.
- Illustration c: When the vehicle is parked on inclined or sloping ground.
- Illustration d: When an approaching vehicle turns into the parking aisle near your vehicle.
- Illustration e: When the angle between your vehicle and the approaching vehicle is small, making cross traffic more difficult for the radar to detect.
- The following conditions may reduce the
radar sensors' ability to detect surrounding vehicles accurately:
- Severe or adverse weather conditions.
- Water or road spray around the vehicle.
- Ice, frost, dirt, or similar material built up on the vehicle or around the radar sensor areas.
- Do not rely on or use the RCTA system under the
following condition because proper operation may not be available:
- When towing a trailer or another vehicle.
- Do not attach stickers, including transparent materials, install accessories, or apply additional paint near the radar sensors. Any material or modification in the sensor area may interfere with radar transmission and reduce the system's ability to detect approaching vehicles.
- Excessive surrounding noise, such as a high audio system volume or an open vehicle window, may interfere with the warning chime and make it difficult or impossible to hear.
- Always check the surrounding area and physically turn to look behind the Mitsubishi Outlander before backing up. The radar sensors are primarily designed to detect approaching moving vehicles and cannot recognize every type of object or road user, including:

NOTE
- When several vehicles approach one after another, as shown in Illustration 1, or approach from opposite directions, as shown in Illustration 2, the RCTA system may not sound another warning chime after the first vehicle has passed through the radar sensors' detection area.
